Watercolor Floral Painting

Workshop Description: The workshop focuses on the traditional method of watercolor painting, also known as glazing. The superimposed wash is the foundation for the traditional method of watercolor painting. The paint is applied in a series of flat or graded washes superimposed from light to dark to create desired effects. The lightest color wash is applied first; the medium is applied over it; and the darkest applied over the medium. The top wash will determine the final effect.

Materials Provided by the Participant: set of watercolor paints (do not buy tube colors that say tint), brushes, cold pressed 140lb. wt. watercolor paper 9”x 12” or larger, a board larger than the paper to stretch the paper, masking or painters tape, water container, paper towels, pencil,  eraser, and photos to use for subjects.

Colored Pencil Floral Drawing

Workshop Description: This workshop focuses on the various techniques used to blend colored pencil strokes (including linear stroke, overlaying colors, scumbling, impressing, glazing, burnishing, colorless blending pencils), removing, wax build-up, and various finishing methods.

Materials Provided by the Participant: set of colored pencils including white, grey, and black (Prismacolor brand recommended), eraser, pencil sharpener, and a colorless blending pencil.

Materials Provided by the Instructor: drawing papers,information packets and photos that can be used for inspiration.

Pen and Ink Wash Drawing

Still Life Basics

Workshop Description: These 4 day classes where each class builds upon the previous one are for those who want to learn how to compose an interesting still life or for those who just want to refresh their skills. It focuses on the use of positive and negative shapes, different types of balance, spatial relationships, aerial perspective, and contrast and variety of values, colors, and textures.

Materials Provided by Participant: For the first class just bring white drawing paper or pad 9”x 12” or larger, regular pencil, and an eraser. If desired, bring photos of objects to be used..

Ink Wash Drawing

Workshop Description: India ink is applied in different value mixtures to create areas of highlights, mid-tones, and shadows in the individual objects. When dry, fine textures and details can be added using pen and ink or felt pens.

Materials Provided by Participant: assortment of watercolor and bristle brushes, water container, paper towels, heavy weight drawing paper or pad (80lb, – 100lb.) at least 9”x12”, pencil, eraser, and fine tipped felt pen. Optional: photos to be reproduced.

Workshop Description:  Colored pencil painting is applying a solution such as Gamsol to blend the color strokes which creates the appearance of a painting rather than a drawing.

Materials Provided by Participant: Colored pencils (preferably Prismacolor), brushes, regular pencil, eraser, paper towels, and photos of desired subject to be painted.

Materials Provided by Instructor: information sheets, solution medium, papers, and blending swabs.

Workshop Description: This workshop is designed to enhance your paintings by increasing depth with the use of warm and cool pigments, by using different types of washes and painting methods to achieve various effects, and by using unusual tools and materials to create interesting textural effects.
