Designs from the Imagination

Workshop Description: Non-objective designs are created using the acrylic methods of hard-edge painting and glazing. Overlapping shapes are formed with masking tape and painted in with various colors. When dry. a layer of new shapes are created on top of the shapes below. This process is continued until the desired effect is achieved.

Materials Provided by Participant: regular pencil, eraser, acrylic paints, brushes, a roll of masking tape, water container, paper towels, canvas

Op Art with Focal Points

Date: 5/7/26 – 5/21/26 Thursdays

Time: 1-4pm

Description of Workshop: The technique usedto create interesting optical illusion in this workshop will be the focal point.  The linear designs will be cut from colored papers and then glued onto a painted canvas and sealed with a varnish. This project needs 3 days to complete. Each class builds on the precious one.

Materials Provided by the Participant: regularpencil, eraser, ruler to draw the illusions, exacto knife or scissors to cut the linear designs from construction paper, Elmers Glue, small brush to apply glue. 9”x 12” canvas board or stretched canvas, color of acrylic paint desired for the canvas, a brush to apply the acrylic paint, and colored pencils for shading.

Materials Provided by the Instructor: layout paper, paper in various colors and varnish.

Colored Pencil Basics

Date: 5/8/26 – 5/29/26  Fridays

Workshop Description: This four week class focuses on the various layering and shading methods used to blend colored pencil strokes (including linear stroke, overlaying colors, scumbling, impressing, glazing, burnishing, colorless blending pencils), removing, wax build-up, and various finishing methods. Please note that each class builds upon the previous one.

Materials Provided by the Participant: drawing paper or pad, set of colored pencils including white, grey, and black (Prismacolor brand recommended), eraser, pencil sharpener, and a colorless blending pencil.

Materials Provided by the Instructor: information packets and photos that can be used for inspiration.

Mixed Media Florals

Workshop Description: Have fun composing an interesting floral painting using a combination of dry and wet mediums which create interesting textures and atmospheres. The wet medium used will be watercolors and the dry can be regular pencils, colored pencils, or pastels. Emphasis will be place on arranging objects into interesting and balanced compositions based on the Principles of Design and then enhanced by texturing and shading.

Materials Provided by Participant: watercolors, brushes, palettes, pencils, erasers, and watercolor paper 140lb. wt., colored pencils or pastels.

Spring Landscape in Watercolors

Description of Workshop: Learn the basics of painting spring landscapes by applying various composition principles, types of landscape compositions, aerial perspective, and various watercolor techniques.

Materials Provided by Participants: watercolors paints (if using tube paints, do not use paints that say tints), brushes, 140lb. wt. watercolor paper, board larger than the paper size for stretching the paper, tape, paper towels, water container, and a photo of scene to be painted.
