The Artworks Gallery Shows Art of Mynderse Senior Emily Mack

The Artworks Gallery Honored Artist Space will show the art of Mynderse Senior Emily Mack during the month of May. The opening reception is Friday, May 9 from 5:30 to 7 p.m. The public is cordially invited to attend.

The Seneca County Arts Council is a supporter of the arts in local area through its gallery and its varied programs. We are especially proud of our scholarship for Seneca County high school seniors who will attend college the following year. In our continued support to high school artists, the Artworks Gallery is honored to display the talent of Emily Mack from the Seneca Falls School District.

Emily says, “From the time I could hold a crayon, I have fostered a love of art. What started as colorful crayon scribbles has steadily grown through layers of artistic practice, leading me to a firm understanding: Talent is not something you’re born with—it’s a pursued interest.”

Inspiration comes to me from many sources, expressed through varied media. My shelves are stacked with art resources from concept & reference books to the histories of art movements. I have a particular love for color theory; balancing each color with its counterpart to create a piece that strikes a balance between shades.

While I enjoy using different methods, my favorite media of expression is graphite. There is a beauty in its diversity and simplicity, a challenge to create a detailed piece with the manipulation of shading, light, structure and perspective. Graphite challenges my abilities, grows my understanding of artistic processes & ultimately propels me forward as an artist.

I have been honored to have one of my pieces, ‘Drowning Girl’ (featured in this exhibit), win a Silver Key from the National Scholastic Art and Writing Awards. Additionally, I have been thankful to have created a multitude of commissioned art, and have most recently completed a mural for my school, Mynderse Academy. Moving forward, I intend to study both English Literature and Visual Arts after high school.”

The gallery hours are Wednesday through Saturday 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. The gallery is staffed by volunteers. If you are making a special trip to visit us, you can call 315-257-0201 to make sure we are staffed.

We are excited to share that Sylvia Papperman’s work has been selected to be included in the summer exhibition for View in Old Forge.  Congratulations Sylvia!
