Parallel Perspective Basics

Workshop Description: Linear Perspective is intended to impart an understanding of the use of a horizon line and vanishing points to transform 2-D shapes into 3-D forms. These classes  include presentations, discussions, and hands-on exercises in applying one-point perspective (parallel perspective) when drawing objects viewed from the front.

Materials Provided by the Participant: drawing tablet or paper larger than 9”x 12”, regular pencil, eraser, ruler at least 18”, and a pencil sharpener.

The Basics of Watercolor Painting

Date: 1/9/26 – 2/6/26  Fridays from 1-3pm

Description: Basic Watercolor is a six weeks class for those who have never used watercolors but would like to try the medium and those who have used watercolors and just want to refresh their skills. It is intended to impart an understanding and application of the fundamentals in the use of watercolors. It includes presentations, discussions, and hands-on exercises in the following areas: Painting Surfaces, Types of Brushes and Brush Effects, Stretching the Paper, Watercolor Pigments, Watercolor Washes, Blending Colors, Removing Color, Watercolor Painting Methods, and Special Effects

Materials Provided by Participant: For the 1st class, bring a set of tube watercolors (do not buy sets or tubes labeled tints), and several watercolor brushes in various sizes, a water container, paper towels, pencil, and eraser.

The Landscape

Date: 1/17/26 Saturday

Description of Workshop: This workshop is geared to learning the elements of landscape composition for those who would like to begin landscape painting or drawing and those who would just like refresh their skills. Areas of study include use of pictorial planes (foreground, middleground, and background), types of spatial layouts (shallow, intermediate, and deep), landscape components (sky, clouds, land masses, trees, light, shadows, reflections, light etc.), compositional elements (balance, aerial perspective, color dominance, etc), and textural techniques.

Materials Provided by Participants: a regular pencil, a good eraser, and 9”x 12” or larger drawing paper or pad

Foundations of Angular Perspective

Winter Landscape in Watercolors

Description of Workshop: Learn the basics of painting winter landscapes by applying various composition principles, painting techniques, types of landscape compositions, aerial perspective, and understanding the use of value masses, light, ground shadows, tree forms, and cloud formations.

Materials Provided by Participants: watercolor paints (if using tube paints, do not use paints that say tints), brushes, 140lb. watercolor paper, board larger than the paper size for stretching the paper, tape, canvas for acrylics, paper towels, water container, and a photo of scene to be painted.
