Workshop Description: The workshop will concentrate on methods used to create tonal values in objects when drawing with pen and ink or felt tipped pen, and the ways various drawing techniques are applied.
Materials Provided by the Participant: fine felt-tipped pen, drawing tablet or paper, regular pencil, eraser, and photo to be drawn.

Color Basics
Date: 2/13/26 – 3/20/26 Fridays

Workshop Description: This is a 6 weeks workshop focusing on learning how to mix colors, use chroma to increase or decrease color strength, use value to create color contrasts to create 3-D effects, understand color dominance, and apply color perspective. Each class builds upon the last one.
Materials Provided by the Participant: drawing paper or pad, set of colored pencils including white and black (Prismacolor brand recommended), eraser, pencil sharpener, and a regular pencil.

Metamorphose

Workshop Description: Metamorphose is changing shapes within in a landscape, still life, floral, etc. to create a totally different work of art. This morphing of shapes is done by applying various techniques such as distortion, embellishment, fragmentation, perspective, simplification, etc. The work can be created with any medium desired.
Materials Provided by Participant: All materials needed for the desired medium (pencils etc. for drawing; paints, brushes etc. for painting; papers)

Street or City Scene

Workshop Description: Were you ever interested in drawing street or city scenes but didn’t know where to begin? The focus of the class is learning how to draw buildings and houses in parallel perspective to create a front and side view street or city scene which can then be finished using any medium of choice.
Materials Provided by Participant: drawing paper or pad (9”x 12” or larger),pencil, eraser, ruler larger than 12”, and any finishing materials desired (paints, inks, colored pencils, etc. and their related materials).

Winter Scene in Gouache
Date: 2/21/26 Saturday

Cost: $40
Workshop Description: Gouache paints are opaque watercolors meaning that the bottom layers of color are not visible through the top ones. The binding agent in these paints is gum Arabic with an inert pigment, mainly chalk. Transparent watercolors are applied from lighter colors to darker ones while gouache are generally applied from darker to lighter. Three basic techniques are used: mid-tone. tiling, and grisaille. Effects can range from those resembling watercolors or acrylics.
Materials Provided by Participant: 140lb. weight watercolor paper or pad (at least 9”x12”), watercolor brushes and stiffer bristle brushes, palette, hard board (plexi-glass or wood) larger than the size of the paper to stretch the paper, masking tape, watercolor container, paper towels, pencil, eraser.

Resist Painting

Workshop Description: Resist Painting is a method of applying wax to various parts of the picture so that the applied water-based paint will not adhere to those areas. Many interesting effects and textures can be created by using rubbings or various drawing techniques. It is similar to the batik process except that is done on paper instead of fabric.
Materials Provided by Participant: box of crayons, watercolor paper 140lb. weight (at least 9”x12”), watercolor brushes, water container, a hard surface (like plexi-glass or wood) larger than the watercolor paper size, pencil, eraser, paper towels, and a photo to reproduce, if desired.
Materials Provided by Instructor: an iron, drawing paper, tracing paper, and a blow-dryer.
