Workshop Description: The workshop will concentrate on methods used to create tonal values in objects when drawing with pen and ink or felt tipped pen, and the ways various drawing techniques are applied.
Materials Provided by the Participant: fine felt-tipped pen, drawing tablet or paper, regular pencil, eraser, and photo to be drawn.

Gouache Landscapes

Description of Workshop: Gouache paints are opaque watercolors meaning that the bottom layers of color are not visible through the top ones. The binding agent in these paints is gum Arabic with an inert pigment, mainly chalk. Transparent watercolors are applied from lighter colors to darker ones while gouache are generally applied from darker to lighter. Three basic techniques are used: mid-tone. tiling, and grisaille. Effects can range from those resembling watercolors or acrylics.
Materials Provided by the Participant: 140lb. weight watercolor paper or pad (at least 9”x12”), watercolor brushes and stiffer bristle brushes, palette, hard board (plexi-glass or wood) larger than the size of the paper to stretch the paper, masking tape, watercolor container, paper towels, pencil, eraser, and a photo of any landscape to be reproduced.

Mixed Media Landscape

Workshop Description: Have fun composing an interesting painting using a combination of dry and wet mediums which create interesting textures and atmospheres. The wet medium used will be watercolors and the dry can be regular pencils, colored pencils, or pastels. Emphasis will be place on arranging objects into interesting and balanced compositions based on the Principles of Design and then enhanced by texturing and shading.
Materials Provided by Participant: watercolors, brushes, palettes, pencils, erasers, and watercolor paper 140lb. wt., colored pencils or pastels.

Positive-Negative Drawing

Workshop Description: Striking contrast drawings are created by breaking a drawing into positive and negative space and shading them with only white and black colored pencils. An abstract design is cut out of black paper and glued onto a white illustration board. The selected drawing for the project is then transferred onto the illustration board. All of the shadows in the positive or white areas of the drawing are shaded in with a black pencil while the highlights remain the white of the paper. All of the highlights in the negative or black areas of the drawing are shaded with a white colored pencil while the shadows remain the black of the paper. Any subject matter can be used.
Materials Provided by the Participant: sketch pad, regular pencil, a black colored pencil, a white colored pencil, an eraser, a hard surface to be used as a cutting board, an exacto knife, a scissors, glue, and a regular pencil .
Materials Provided by the Instructor: black paper, white illustration board, and tracing paper.

Colored Pencil Floral Drawing

Workshop Description: This workshop focuses on the various techniques used to blend colored pencil strokes (including linear stroke, overlaying colors, scumbling, impressing, glazing, burnishing, colorless blending pencils), removing, wax build-up, and various finishing methods.
Materials Provided by Participant: set of colored pencils including white, grey, and black (Prismacolor brand recommended), eraser, pencil sharpener, and a colorless blending pencil.
Materials Provided by Instructor: drawing papers,information packets and photos that can be used for inspiration.

Watercolor Landscape Techniques

Description of Workshop: This workshop is designed to enhance your paintings by increasing depth with the use of warm and cool pigments, by using different types of washes and painting methods to achieve various effects, and by using unusual tools and materials to create interesting textural effects.
Materials Provided by Participants: watercolor paint set, brushes, cold pressed 140lb. wt. watercolor paper, board larger than the paper to stretch the paper, masking or painters tape, water container, paper towels, water container, pencil and eraser, and photos to use for subjects.
Materials Provided by the Instructor: instruction sheets and materials and tools for texturing.
